There are many questions in life. Why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways? Why does toast always land butter-side down? And perhaps most importantly, if an octopus wore trousers, would it wear one giant pair or eight tiny pairs?
Scientists still haven't answered that last one, presumably because they're too busy doing science and not enough important thinking.
Speaking of important things, did you know that wombats produce cube-shaped poo? Actual cubes. Not vaguely cube-like. Not "sort of square if you squint". Proper cubes. Which means somewhere in Australia there is an animal effectively manufacturing biological dice. If that doesn't make you question reality, nothing will.
Meanwhile, in current events, artificial intelligence is continuing to advance at an alarming pace. AI can now write poems, create images, summarise reports, and in some cases generate entire business strategies. Yet despite all this progress, your printer still somehow knows exactly when you're in a hurry and chooses violence.
The modern world is a confusing place.
Take pigeons. For centuries they delivered messages across continents. They were trusted with military communications. Today they spend most of their time fighting over a discarded Greggs sausage roll and walking around train stations looking mildly offended. That's a career downfall worthy of a Netflix documentary.
And while we're discussing mysteries, have you ever noticed that the phrase "quick sand" sounds much more efficient than it actually is? It sounds like a premium service. "Need sinking urgently? Try QuickSand. Next-day swallowing available."
The internet isn't helping either. One minute you're checking the weather. The next you're watching a Norwegian man build a canoe out of cheese while a commentator explains why medieval ducks may have influenced European politics. Whether any of that is true is almost irrelevant. You're invested now.
Recent headlines have been full of AI, economic uncertainty, space exploration, climate innovation, and technological breakthroughs. Humanity is literally preparing for future missions beyond Earth while Dave from Accounts is still replying-all to company emails saying "Thanks."
Progress is not a straight line.
Here's another fun fact for absolutely no reason whatsoever: bananas are berries, but strawberries aren't. If fruit can lie about what it is, perhaps we should all stop pretending we know what's going on.
A joke before we finish:
I bought some shoes from a drug dealer.
I don't know what he laced them with, but I've been tripping all day.
And another:
Why don't skeletons fight each other?
Because they don't have the guts.
